OVERVIEW
Burleigh Heads is approximately 11km2. Generally Burleigh Heads
has a Noosa - like 'village' feel. The patrolled beach is one
of the most popular with both swimmers and surfcraft alike.
HISTORY
Burleigh Heads was named by early European explorers for the
"burly" appearance of the headland. The first landholder
in the Burleigh District was Alfred William Compigne of Nindooinbah
near Beaudesert. The first store and Postal Office was established
in 1888 and was later to become a hotel as well. The hotel,
store and post office soon became a popular site for travellers.
The first Surf Life Saving clubhouse was built in 1923.
NATURAL WONDERS
Burleigh Heads has 10 parks covering nearly 10% of the entire
area. Burleigh Head National Park lies between Burleigh Heads
and Tallebudgera Creek estuary. Protected in the park are remnants
of the living culture of the Kombumerri people, past volcanic
activity and littoral rainforest. The park is diverse, with
mangroves along the creek, grasslands, open forest, rainforest
and coastal vegetation.
RETAIL, COMMERCIAL & INDUSTRIAL
A variety of exciting retail premises are located in the Burleigh
Heads village including restaurants, café's & more.
A large, expanding Stockland shopping centre is located minutes
from Burleigh Beach. West Burleigh is host to one of the Gold
Coast's largest light industry parks which houses huge surf
industry outlets and a Bunnings warehouse. Close by is the Varsity
Lakes I.T. precinct where innovative businesses are choosing
to locate due to superior infrastructure.
SCHOOLS
The Gold Coast city has a wide range of public & private
schools, universities and technical colleges.

have risen 109% over the seven years from 1998-2005
