Broadbeach Area Profile
OVERVIEW
Broadbeach is set alongside the pristine surf & sands
of the Pacific Ocean and is a a mecca for tourists and urban
beach culture. Apartment buildings dot the landscape in between
lush parks and combined shopping & dining areas. Broadbeach
is home to the largest shopping centre on the Gold Coast Pacific
Fair, the highly successful Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition
centre and the wildly popular Jupiters Casino. It has one
of the busiest beaches on the Gold Coast which is home to
the National Surf Life Saving Competition each year.
HISTORY
The beach at Broadbeach named Kurrawa is aboriginal for "deep
blue sea".
NATURAL WONDERS
Broadbeach has one of the most spectacular sandy beaches on
the Gold Coast. Broadbeach also boasts 6 parks which largely
run along the esplanade covering nearly 7% of the total area.
RETAIL, COMMERCIAL & INDUSTRIAL
A variety of al-fresco cafes and restaurants are located on
Surf Parade and in the plaza. Boutique retail stores are intermingled
with other variety stores, health & beauty shops plus
day spas throughout the streets and inside the Oasis shopping
centre. Commercial offices are in limited supply (at late
August 2007).
The world class Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition centre
(www.gccec.com.au) houses a conference facility for up to
6000 delegates or conventions & banquets for up to 3500
diners. Concerts and special events occur frequently in the
oversized exhibition hall.
SCHOOLS
The Gold Coast city has a wide range of public & private
schools, universities and technical colleges.
